Evening Irene Update: Garwood's Center Street Underpass Still Flooded

Garwood PD fill us in on how the borough is doing.

There goes Irene, but here stays the water.

In Garwood, the biggest problem area has been the Center Street underpass, which has always been prone to flooding. After not being able to pump out the waters collecting there because of power outages, this evening crews were finally able to get the power back on and start removing water. The road is still closed.

Power outages are still an issue in the borough. Garwood PD say that 80-90 percent of homes have power back on, but there are still some outages along South and North avenues.

Downed trees entangled with power lines have also been an issue. One tree on Oak Street has still not been removed because of power lines, as the borough waits for PSEG to turn off the power so they can remove it. The road is closed at that site.
