Did an Elizabeth Cop Punch a Woman in the Face? Viral Video Spurs Police Investigation

Elizabeth police have yet to identify the woman and have so far not suspended the officer.

Elizabeth police have begun an internal investigation into a YouTube video where a woman outside Envy Nightclub in Elizabeth appears to grab a police officer, who then punches her in the face.

In the video, which has since been removed from YouTube, you can see the officer pull one person to the ground and then appear to punch another approaching woman in the face. Elizabeth police have yet to identify the woman and have so far not suspended the officer, according to a statement from Elizabeth Mayor Chris Bollwage.

Elizabeth City Councilman Frank Mazza told the Star Ledger that he knows the officer involved, calling him "a good cop," but declined to identify him.

"The action itself is definitely unacceptable, but we don’t know the circumstances that led up to it," Mazza told the Star Ledger. "I’m sure there is more than what we actually saw in 10 seconds."
