Concert Series: The Nerds Play Oak Ridge Park Today

Five things you need to know today, Wednesday, August 31.

  1. The Union County Summer Arts Festival concert series wraps its 51st season tonight at 7:30 p.m. with a free evening of energetic party music performed by Jersey born "The Nerds." The show combines high energy rock and roll with a stage show of pure talent and comedy. The Nerds have performed their endearing brand of rock and pop covers on a whirlwind ride that has taken them from popular watering holes along the Jersey Shore to Carnegie Hall, and now to our own Oak Ridge Park in Clark tonight. Pack a picnic basket, lawn chairs, and blankets and get the family together for a rollicking evening of music under the stars.
  2. If is part of your commute to work or school, you will need to plan an alternate route for the foreseeable future. As a result of flood-related damage from Hurricane Irene, Madison Hill Road is currently closed at the bridge that crosses the Clark Reservoir. The county-owned bridge may need major repairs and will likely be closed for some time. Plan ahead for the start of school on Tuesday and expect congestion on alternate route streets.
  3. Are you looking for a way to make a difference in people’s lives? , the local, 24-hour caring and crisis hotline, is now registering volunteers to register for its comprehensive 12-week volunteer training class beginning Sept. 21 through December 14.   4. RWJ Rahway Fitness & Wellness Center will present a free community education program tonight at 6 p.m. "" will be presented by Elizabeth Miller, MPH. The program will teach parents and caregivers how to raise healthy children by providing a varied diet of healthy foods. The program is free and open to all, but registration is requested.   5. The Clark Public Library hosts its free Wednesday afternoon movie today at 1 p.m. today. All are welcome to bring a snack or lunch and enjoy “,” based on the true story of Li Cunxin, a peasant boy from rural China who was taken to Beijing to study ballet by Madame Mao's cultural delegates, and later defected to the United States.
