Clark Police Chief Denis Connell Retires

Lieutenant Alan Scherb will be designated as Officer-in-Charge of the Department at this time.

After 37 years of service as a member of the Clark Police Department, Chief Denis Connell is retiring from the force, effective tomorrow, June 1, 2011, according to a statement made by Clark Mayor Salvatore Bonaccorso this afternoon.

Lieutenant Alan Scherb has been promoted to the rank of Provisional Captain and will be designated as the Officer-in-Charge of the Department, also effective June 1. Members of the Department were briefed at a general staff meeting this afternoon.

Union County Prosecutor Theodore Romankow is providing assistance to the Department during the transition. According to the Mayor, “I am grateful that Prosecutor Romankow is assigning Captain Ana Zsakof his office to provide Captain Scherb with assistance as needed. She will be a direct liaison to his office. This is a perfect example of shared services as we develop the futureleaders of the Clark Police Department.”
