Clark FD Extinguishes Fire at Knights of Columbus

The late-morning fire occurred in the bar area of the unoccupied building.

The Clark Fire Department responded to a fire at the on Westfield Avenue around 11 a.m. today. According to Clark Fire Official Frank Cerasa, the fire was contained to the bar area in the front of the building and was quickly extinguished. No one was in the building at the time of the fire.

"There was a sizeable smoke condition," said Cerasa. "There was damage to some cabinets, ceiling tiles and the floor. We also forced doors open upstairs in the apartments above the building, but there was no damage to that area."

After extinguishing the fire, crews ventilated the building and apartments. An engine company from Rahway also assisted.

Police closed off Westfield Avenue from Madison Hill Road to Joseph Street, directing cars around the scene.

The Union County Arson Investigation Unit was on scene to try to determine the cause of the fire. Cerasa wouldn't speculate about the fire's origin.
