Unfortunate Changes at Patch

Patch was recently sold by AOL to a company named Hale-Global. Hale Global proceeded to lay off 90% of its local editors including our wonderful editor Jessica Remo. I am not sure what this means for the future of Patch but I can't imagine their plan being comparable to the devotion and energy Jess put into this web site from its inception. I watched her learn and grow with the Clark/Garwood Patch and put her sweat and tears into it from the beginning. She lovingly referred to it as "her baby." Jessica  accepted the demands and changes imposed on her when Patch forced her to give up all of her freelance writers and photographers and cover every single thing herself. She enthusiastically took on Scotch Plains/Fanwood Patch in addition to Clark/Garwood because of budget cuts that demanded more of local editors. Whatever Hale-Global has in store for the Patch I am pretty sure that it will not be the same. We have lost the personal touch of an excellent local editor who really cared about Clark, Garwood, Scotch Plains and Fanwood and the people and businesses in those communities. Jessica went door to door to local businesses and introduced Patch to the community. She attended football games and concerts and festivals and made sure she knew the faces of the people in town. I am sad that AOL didn't realize what it lost by making the decision to sell Patch.
