At Tuesday's Garwood council meeting, Mayor Patricia Quattrocchi mentioned the passing of longtime resident John Kandel.

John Kandel, 47 of Garwood passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 11, 2012. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to visit the Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Ave., Westfield on Tuesday from 6-9 pm. John grew up in Westfield and has resided in Garwood the last 17 years and will be deeply missed by his wife Kristan and their son’s; John and Michael. He is also survived by his brother, William and his five sisters; Joanne, Maureen, Elise, Robin and Kimberly.
