Diamonds in the Rough: Coin Collection and the First Annual CGSB Clothing Drive

The column will be the eyes and ears of all that is happening in the world of the Clark Girls Softball League.

The Clark Girls Softball League had a busy week with trying to squeeze games in between the rain storms and the annual coin collection event over the past weekend.

Girls from each team donning their uniforms and armed with CGSB branded containers, set-out over the weekend to raise funds for the league.

From my perspective, these types of activities are imperative in keeping organizations like the CGSB and others moving forward, especially during tough economic times. As I stood with my daughter at the entrance of Ace Town Hardware, I was humbled and taken-back by the overwhelming support and generosity showered upon the girls as they politely asked for donations. My daughter, who’s five, was scared at the thought of asking strangers for money and even more at the prospect of people saying ‘no’. Her fears were soon put to rest when she witnessed how willing people were to support the CGSB. I am very proud of my daughter, her teammates and the girls of the CGSB for their efforts this past weekend.

The CGSB is proud to announce a new community service initiative called Clark Girls Softball Clothing Drive. The project is geared to help those who are in need of clothing, while the CGSB receives a small stipend based on the total weight in clothing received. The CGSB is partnering with A&E Clothing Corporation for this venture.

Gently used clothing is preferred, but anything people can donate is greatly appreciated. Donating is simple, please just place the clothing in a tied plastic trash bag and drop it off at the complex under the pavilion.  The drop-off dates will be May 29th thru June 1 from 4:00PM to 8:30PM and on June 2nd till 2:30PM. In addition to clothing, we are also collecting all forms of linens and stuffed animals. These items, based on the condition, will either be donated for continued use and enjoyment or recycled. Either way, everything is given a second chance to bring happiness to people’s lives.

Till next time, see you in the rough…
