Diamonds in the Rough: A Glance into the 2012 Season of the Clark Girls Softball League

The column will be the eyes and ears of all that is happening in the world of the Clark Girls Softball League. Scores, standings and league news will make-up the foundation of this journal.

Spring is here and that means the Clark Girls Softball League (CGSB) is gearing up for another fun-filled season. First, I wanted to take a quick minute to introduce you to the Clark Girls Softball League’s column appropriately dubbed ‘Diamonds in the Rough’. The column will be the eyes and ears of all that is happening in the world of the CGSB. Scores, standings and league news will make-up the foundation of this journal, as well as, a few independent thoughts from yours truly. I am not only the resident blogger, but I am also the manager of my daughter’s team.

Over the past few weeks the CGSB held a series of coaches meetings and tutorial sessions. This is where the league’s coaches, old and new, had the opportunity to reacquaint themselves with the league and familiarize themselves with their new colleagues. Team rosters were handed out, as well as, a first aide course and a review of indoor/outdoor practice schedules were some of the key topic areas discussed.

During the winter months, the CGSB held a series of instructional clinics to help the girls get ready for the season. The turnout was amazing and each girl came ready to practice. No rust here. The girls began the pre-season with a series of indoor practices and since Mother Nature has been so corporative lately, most teams have been able to put on their cleats and head outdoors.

Parents, coaches and players got together over this past weekend to get the softball fields and concession pavilion ready for the 2012 season. Turnout was amazing and was true testimony to the level of support the league receives from its dedicated base of parents. Opening day is schedule for Saturday, April 7th and will be kicked-off with the league’s annual ‘Parade of Teams’. Games will begin shortly after the conclusion of the parade around 11:30 AM.

We would like to give a special thank you to all those area businesses that have been so supportive of the 2012 season; without their continued support and the unbridle support from volunteers, parents and players alike, our league doesn’t exist.
