Hehnly Select Choir Sings on Channel 12 News

The choir's performance will play again on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Some local faces made channel 12 news this weekend: The Frank K. Hehnly Select Choir was invited to perform for the station's "Sounds of the Season" segment featuring six groups from around the state.

The Hehnly Select Choir, under the direction of Meghan Bowers and comprised of fifth grade students, was the only elementary choir featured this year. The Select Choir is a new addition to Hehnly School. Auditions were held and rehearsals began mid-October. Students rehearse for 25 minutes every six days and have had three performances so far.

The students performed twice on the segment – first singing a Hanukkah medley and then "Deck the Halls" and "Jingle Bells" during the credits.

"I am so thrilled for the students at Frank K. Hehnly to have had such a unique opportunity to record a performance which has been shown on live TV multiple times, and is available on the internet," Bowers tells Patch. "Having had such little rehearsal time, the students have accomplished so much as a musical ensemble. I am so proud of their performance for the Sounds of the Season program on News Channel 12. This is only the beginning for the Select Choir – look for them around the community in the next couple of months!"

The segment aired on Saturday and Sunday and will air again on Christmas Eve (10:30 p.m. and midnight) and Christmas Day (8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.)
