Volunteer of the Year Dinner for the Scotch Plains Service League

The Fanwood Scotch Plains Rotary Club honors an individual or organization each year to acknowledge volunteerism in our communities.  In 2014 we are proud to honor the Fanwood Scotch Plains Service League for their operation of the Thrift Shop and the contributions they make to our community in the form of Scholarships and grants to various organizations.

The Service League was incorporated in July 1973 and opened the door of the Thrift Shop forty years ago in October 1974.  As of 2013, the league has raised and donated over $1 million dollars since its humble beginnings, to organizations in Fanwood, Scotch Plains and other communities in Union County with an emphasis on helping woman and youth.  In 2013 alone the organization donated at least $35,000.

Organizations receiving donations in 2013 are:  Center for Hope, Children’s Specialized Hospital, Contact We Care, Fanwood Arts Council, Fanwood Library, Fanwood Rescue Squad, Fanwood-Scotch Plains Girl Scouts, Flintlocks, Historical Society of SP-Fanwood, Homefirst (Coalition for the Homeless), Literacy Volunteers of Union County, Master Gardeners of Union County, Mobile Meals of Westfield, Resolve, FSP Service League Scholarship Fund, SP-F Preschool Program, Scotch Plains Library, Scotch Plains Rescue Squad, Trailside Nature & Science Center, YMCA – Fanwood-Scotch Plains, YWCA of Eastern Union County-Battered Women’s Shelter.

We will celebrate the accomplishments of the fine organization on April 30, 2014 at the Westwood, North Avenue, Garwood.   The cost per ticket is $65.   For further information and to purchase tickets, please contact Pat Plante - pat.plante@cbmoves.com.
