The Plainfield Area YMCA - Healthy Kids Day

The Plainfield Area YMCA

It is often said that the greatest wealth is health. If that is indeed the case, we at the Plainfield YMCA wish to help young people move towards prosperity with our annual Healthy Kids Day later this month.

Unfortunately, students' physical activity often slows down during the summer months. In fact, according to studies, children gain weight two to three times faster during the summer vacation compared to the school year. Additionally, physical activity is shown to improve cognitive development, potentially lessening summer learning loss.

On Saturday, April 26 between noon and 3pm at the Plainfield YMCA, join us in kicking off an active spring and summer for the city's youth. This free event will feature pool activities, a basketball clinic, both a youth and adult fitness class, karate class, a bouncy house, arts and crafts, and much more. The First Tee, a youth development organization, will allow attendees to tee off at their golf clinic. The Plainfield Y is located at 518 Watchung Avenue.

Similar events will take place at over 1,500 YMCAs across the country this month, so those not in the Plainfield area can check with the local Y for more information. In the mean time, we encourage you to sign up for the Healthy Kids Day email newsletter, a national mailing that includes tips for keeping kids active and healthy through all four seasons.
