PHOTOS/VIDEO: Local Officials Bag Groceries to Fight Hunger
Now bagging in aisle 7...some familiar faces.
If you shopped at yesterday, you may have had your groceries bagged by your mayor.
Garwood Mayor Patricia Quattrocchi, Garwood Police Chief Bruce Underhill and Garwood Assistant Fire Chief and Union County Hazmat Captain Michael Tharaldsen joined other Union County officials in honor of September's National Hunger Action Month by serving as honorary grocery baggers on Wednesday. In exchange for their hard bagging work, the baggers accepted monetary donations – shoppers could add donations to their total at the checkout – to help fill shelves of community food banks.
Other baggers included Union County Police Chief Daniel Vaniska, Union County Hazmat Deputy Chief Bill Kane, Union County Director of Emergency Management Chris Scaturo, Fanwood Mayor Colleen Mahr and Bill Crandall of the Westfield Food Pantry at Holy Trinity Church.

Today, the hosts a similar with Clark Councilmen Richard Kazanowski and Brian Toal and Councilwoman Angel Albanese acting as baggers, starting at 11 a.m.
Governors across six states including New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland have issued proclamations declaring Sept. 21st as "ShopRite Partners In Caring Day." To recognize this special day, dignitaries from all six states will "help bag hunger" at their local ShopRite store to raise awareness and funds for food banks in their community.
