'Kai the Hitchhiker' Pleads Not Guilty to Clark Murder

A public defender on Monday entered a plea of not guilty for Caleb Lawrence McGillvary (aka 'Kai the Hitchhiker'), the Internet celebrity who police say beat 73-year-old Clark attorney Joseph Galfy to death last month. McGillvary, 24, made a brief first appearance in Union County Superior Court Monday morning. He is being held on $3 million bail.

Incumbent Jim Mathieu and candidate Mike Martin were the top two Republican vote-getters in Tuesday's primary and will appear on the November ballot in the race for two borough council seats. Mathieu, on the outs with his party, ran as a Conservative Republican and received the most votes of the three candidates. Martin, who was also a candidate in the 2012 election, ran within the Regular Garwood GOP along with runner-up Steven Blaufeder.

This new Center Street spot dishes uses high-end beef and pork for burgers and barbecue with epicurean toppings. Owner Jacob Han, 33, a Scotch Plains native, happily calls Loaded a "burger joint," emphasizing no frills but quality products.

Civil War Weekend Goes Off With a Bang at Dr. Robinson Plantation

The Civil War came to the Dr. Robinson Plantation for the the museum's annual Living History weekend. Reenactors faced off in a live battle at Esposito Park and camped overnight. Guests were also treated to period demonstrations, games and dancing. Check out our photos from the event.

Clark Rec's First Tennis Tourney Raises Money for Sandy Victims

Clark Recreation held the first ever tennis tournament this weekend to raise money for Hurricane Sandy relief. The tourney was initiated and run by James Villari, a Clark resident and avid tennis player. The event raised $500 to be donated to the Salvation Army for Sandy relief.
