Customer friendly volunteers at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Westfield are once again gearing up to receive and sort a plethora of books in many useful categories for the 26th ANNUAL GIANT BOOK SALE in the church’s Parish Hall.

Sponsored by the Friends of Music at St. Paul’s, this year’s sale runs on Sunday, November 3 (Noon-5pm), Monday, Nov. 4 (9am-9pm) and Tuesday, Nov. 5 (Bag Day, 9am-Noon). As always, everyone who loves gently used books at bargain prices is invited to attend, browse and buy.

The Sale features thousands of donated books in a wide variety of popular categories.  These include hardback and paperback Fiction, History, Biography, Science and Medicine, Political Science, Psychology, Gardening, the Arts, Sports, Pets, Crafts, How-To, Self Improvement, Languages, books for Teens, and a large selection of Children’s books, puzzles and games.  Prices are very reasonable.

Also for sale are low-cost videos, software, CDs, records, DVDs, oversized books and sheet music.  St. Paul’s is unable to accept donated textbooks, magazines, encyclopedias, or Reader’s Digest condensed books.

All Sale proceeds are used to fund the various, high-level musical programs at St. Paul’s, to which the general public is always invited.

In this regard, Charles M. Banks, Director of Music at St. Paul’s says, “the Friends of Music at St. Paul’s wish to thank all book donors and buyers who have made this annual Giant Book Sale a success for the past 25 years.”  Banks notes that “we are especially grateful for the public’s generous support in 2012, when Super Storm Sandy put a stop to the sale on the first weekend in November.”  Advises Banks:  “We had to push the Sale dates into December 2012 but, despite fallen trees on the roads and a power outage in most people’s homes and at the church, our book-buying public continued to donate, and they showed up in record numbers at the rescheduled December Sale.  We were very grateful and pleased.”

“Hopefully, says Banks, “there will be no need to reschedule the Sale in 2013.  Instead, our dedicated volunteers are looking forward to meeting and greeting returning customers on November 3rd, and all new-comers will be welcomed, as well.”

Banks notes that, “there’s something for everyone at the Sale.  For example, you can find special books for Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or birthdays.  Plus, there’s always the chance that you’ll discover that special read, first edition, or rare find that will cost you next to nothing to take home.”

Book donations may be dropped off daily starting on Friday, October 18.   An outdoor pod unit will be available for book drop-offs in the church parking lot (use the Euclid Avenue driveway entrance).   Weekday donations, Monday through Friday, are accepted after 3pm and all day on Saturdays and Sundays through November 2nd.

Donors, please bag your books by category, if possible (History, Science, Children’s, etc.).
