Looking For Love? Eat Your Greens!

You won't be so quick to pass on the salad tonight after reading how greens can increase the love in your life!

Amorous culinary artists usually recommend a feast of oysters, dark chocolate, red meat and red wine to stimulate sensuality.  Interestingly, these foods do very little to balance the heart chakra-our energy center for unconditional love.

The heart chakra (in Sanskrit, anahata), holds the heart, lungs, breasts, shoulders, armpits, arms, wrists and hands.  The arms and hands extend from the heart chakra, enabling use to reach out, give and receive.  The color associated with the heart chakra is a lively green.

If the heart chakra is closed down, we experience emotions such as guilt, rejection self-pity, paranoia and self-loathing.  In extreme cases, a blocked heart chakra is associated with heart disease, lung and breast cancer and upper back and shoulder issues.  When the heart chakra is open and balanced, we live compassionately and generously, with respect, honestly and happiness.  We feel love for other people, as well as ourselves.

So here’s the bottom line: if you want to feed your heart chakra, forget the foie gras and creme brulee!  Focus on green goodness for love and compassion; foods like broccoli, avocados, limes, spinach, romaine lettuce, artichokes, kale, brussel sprouts, zucchini, parsley, basil, sage, thyme and green tea.

Here is one creative way to feed your heart with a crispy crunch:

Kale Chips

1 head kale, washed and thoroughly dried
    2 tablespoons olive oil
    Sea salt, for sprinkling

Preheat the oven to 275 degrees F.

Remove the ribs from the kale and cut into 1 1/2-inch pieces. Lay on a baking sheet and toss with the olive oil and salt. Bake until crisp, turning the leaves halfway through, about 20 minutes.

If you want more love, EAT GREEN!
