Accused Killer Kai the Hitchhiker Hospitalized With Self-Inflicted Wounds

Accused killer Caleb McGillvary, better known as Kai the Hitchhiker, was rushed to the hospital Wednesday morning after he was found with self-inflicted wounds, a county official confirmed.

"Shortly after 5:10 a.m. today Caleb McGillvary was transported from the Union County Jail to an area hospital with self-inflicted, non-life threatening injuries," County Spokesman Seb D'Elia told Patch. "He has been since transported to another medical facility where he is under guard by Sheriff’s Officers."

No further information was released Wednesday about the incident.

McGillvary is accused of killing 73-year-old Clark attorney Joseph Galfy, who was found dead in his Starlite Drive home on Monday, May 13.

McGillvary, 24, had stayed overnight that weekend and is accused of fatally beating Galfy, who was found in his underwear and socks. McGillvary was arrested in Philadelphia on May 16.

In June, a public defender entered a plea of not guilty for McGillvary. He is being held on $3 million bail.

McGillvary alleged on Facebook shortly after the killing that he was drugged and raped, and asked readers, "what would you do?"

McGillvary became an Internet sensation in February. After saving a Fresno, Calif. woman by smashing her attacker in the head with his hatchet, McGillvary’s offbeat personality in an interview made for a YouTube video garnered nearly 4 million views (see it here - warning, contains profanity). He also appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
