New Content Area Supervisor a Familiar Face for Clark Schools

Yuri Diaz previously taught Spanish at ALJ and has been with the district for six years.

Yuri Diaz, a six-year teaching veteran with the Clark School District, has been hired as the district’s Grades 6-12 content area supervisor for Language Arts and Humanities. 

No stranger to the district, Diaz has been employed as high school teacher of Foundations of Spanish, Spanish Two and Three, Spanish Two and Three Honors, and Advanced Placement Spanish Literature since 2007.  

Diaz has been involved in many school and district-wide activities during her tenure in the District, including serving on the District Evaluation Advisory Committee, serving as the district representative at the New Jersey Amistad Commission, organizing the district Cultural Fair, serving on the District Instructional Council, being the Director of the Spanish Honor Society, and serving as faculty council member of the National Honor Society.

Diaz earned her Bachelor of Arts in Spanish, Latin American Civilization, and Culture Studies from Rutgers University. She then received two Master of Education Degrees from Rutgers, one in Foreign Language Education, the second in Educational Administration and Supervision. While at Rutgers University, Diaz attained Dean’s List status, served membership in the Phil Sigma Iota International Foreign Language Honor Society and Sigma Delta Pi Spanish Honor Society, and was a Hispanic Scholarship Fund Scholar, an Edward J. Bloustein Scholar, and a Susana Rotker Scholar.

In addition to her academic accomplishments, Diaz served membership of the Latina Alumnae Network Committee of Rutgers University, served as a New York City Youth Mentor and Assignment Coordinator for MOVE Inc, was part of the Community Planning Committee in Perth Amboy, served as a Conflict Mediator for the Jewish Renaissance Foundation, and served as a volunteer with the Human Rights Campaign in New York City, among other activities.

As the newly appointed Content Area Supervisor, Diaz began her new position the last week in August. 

“Ms. Diaz is widely respected and admired within the school community, those students, teachers, parents, and administrators who have had the pleasure of coming into contact with her are aware of her intelligence, work ethic, dedication, and proficiency as a teacher," Superintendent Ken Knops said.

"I look forward to working with her on our District Administrative Team in her new role as Content Area Supervisor. Knowing her orientation to excellence, I am confident she will bring rigor, high expectations, and academic excellence to her new position."
