The Weekender: Hemophilia Rock Festival, A Ghost Tour and More

Rock for a Cause at the Deutscher Club - The Hemophilia Association of New Jersey is hosting its third annual Rock Festival on Saturday at the The third annual event will take place from 2-10 p.m. rain or shine and will feature six bands, free food and drink, carnival rides, games and fantastic fireworks. Proceeds from this family fun day will benefit the Hemophilia Association which helps those living with hemophilia throughout NJ. Get Spooked in Rahway – The “Ghosts of the Past” Rahway Cemetery Tour will be held, Saturday and Sunday, October 1 - 2 from 12 - 4 p.m. in the Rahway Cemetery on St. Georges Avenue, Rahway. This event is being hosted by The Merchants and Drovers Tavern Museum Association and will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the beginning of the Civil War in 1861. Tours will begin on the museum grounds at 1632 St. Georges Avenue, as visitors through the cemetery will meet the “soldier ghosts” and hear the real-life stories of these war veterans and their families, all who are buried in Rahway Cemetery (circa 1724). Reservations are recommended. Head Off to the Races From Garwood – The Garwood Democratic Club invites all to a day at the races on Saturday, October 1. The Club is sponsoring a bus trip to Monmouth Park in Oceanport for an afternoon of horse racing and outdoor barbeque. Your $40 ticket for this non-political event includes round-trip transportation, admission to the park and private picnic area, and a lunch selection of hamburgers, hot dogs, sausage and peppers and soda. You may BYOB if you want more than soda. The bus will depart from 116 South Avenue, Garwood (across from Marty’s Shoes) at 11 a.m. and leave the track at approximately 4:30 p.m. At Monmouth, there are typically 10 races a day, with the last race concluding around 5:30 p.m. Since seating is limited on the bus, tickets are on a first come first served basis and must be purchased in advance. Hit the Fair in Cranford – The annual Feast of St. Michael continues this weekend at St. Michael's school grounds on Holly Street in Cranford. The Feast features games, rides, food and prizes. Come by Saturday from 3 to 10 p.m. or Sunday from 1 to 6 pm.
