The 2012 Rahway Taste of Spring is presented by RSI Bank, Merida Riverview, Witty’s Wines & Liquors, & Northfield Bank. The Rahway Arts District tasting event started 10 years ago with just twelve eateries and wine sold by the glass with 100 attendees.  It is now an event that fills the entire state-of-the-art Recreation Center plus outdoor tents.

The event is host to over 80 fine gourmet eateries, caterers, and food vendors from the Rahway/NY-Metro area stretching across three counties. Well over two dozen fine wine/boutique beer/aperitifs tasting stations with vendors of national stature participate in this event.  Attendees will have a memorable gourmet food experience, while having the opportunity to savor tastings of over 150 top shelf wine selections.

Returning this year is the “Battle of The Bakeries”, when top area pastry chefs vie for Best Dessert, in addition to the title for “BEST Metro Area BAKERY”.  There is also an annual food competition. Visitors can experience fresh mozzarella being cooked up and made on the spot, various ethnic delights, gourmet candies, fabulous ice cream fresh from a local ice cream maker, exotic presentations and just plain fabulous cooking.

The spring garden atmosphere provides a relaxing setting to move to the music of three different entertainment offerings. After indulging in this gastronomic event, attendees can check out the featured art show and sale. Nearly 800 square feet of space has been dedicated to show handmade ceramics and wheel-thrown pottery, photography, digital prints, paintings, and drawings from local New Jersey artists. All artwork is for sale and prices range from $50-$250.  Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the artists and learn more about their work in person. Before leaving the event, guest can even purchase food to take home from favorite vendors offering take-home portions for sale.

Residents and out-of-town visitors can look for restaurant specials in downtown Rahway on the weekend of the Rahway Taste of Spring, April 13-15, 2012.
