History Program: Food and Drink during the Civil War

The Civil War Sesquicentennial Committee of the Cranford Historical Society is proud to present "Eating and Drinking Customs during the Civil War and Reconstruction years."

On Sunday, March 20, 2011, Judith Krall-Russo will present the program at the Crane-Phillips House Museum at 2:00pm. As you can imagine, life was tough for soldiers and civilians as the Civil War made demands on food and other everyday essentials. The years after the Civil War ushered in many changes in the eating habits of Victorian America. Etiquette around the table became very important, tea parties were popular, and soda fountains became the social center. Come learn more about food and drink in 19th century America. Judith Krall-Russo is a certified tea specialist and food historian who presents educational and entertaining programs throughout New Jersey. She is a graduate of The Tea School, Pomfret, CT, and has completed Tea Certification Level 1, 2, and 3 with the Specialty Tea Institute, NY, NY.
