The Week Ahead: Clark Education Fund Brings 'Defending the Caveman' to UCPAC

Your guide to the week of Feb. 20 in Clark and Garwood.

All schools and government offices will be closed on Monday, Feb. 20 in honor of President's Day.

This week, the Cranford Recreation Department in conjunction with AARP continues taking appointments for free tax assistance for Cranford and Garwood taxpayers, age 60 and older. Appointments should be made by calling the Cranford Recreation and Parks Department at 908-709-7283 to reserve a time slot with a tax practitioner.

The Garwood Board of Education meets on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the All-Purpose Room at Lincoln School.

Clark Council meets on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m. in Council Chambers above the Clark Police Department. See a PDF of the agenda in our gallery, right. The meeting is open to the public and all are welcome to attend.

On Thursday, Feb. 23, the Clark Environmental Commission Meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. in room 30 at the Municipal Building, 315 Westfield Avenue.  This monthly meeting is held on the fouth Thursday and is open to the public.  All are welcome.

On Saturday, Feb. 25, the Clark Education Fund is hosting a special event fundraiser: the long-running Broadway Show and international hit, "Defending the Caveman," will be doing a one-time performance at the Union County Performing Arts Center at 8 p.m. Proceeds from this special event will help The Clark Education Fund provide grants for innovative and unique educational materials that supplement learning in Clark public schools. Ticket prices range from $35 to $55. VIP ($55) ticketholders are invited to a complimentary dessert and coffee reception with the performer after the show.  Tickets are on sale now at the UCPAC box office at 732-499-8226, or visit ucpac.org.

On Sunday, Feb. 26, presenter Skip Ungar returns to the Clark Library to present his program "Hollywood Musicals" at 2 p.m. Skip begins with "The Jazz Singer," starring Al Jolson and takes you through a historical perspective on the thirties when the famous Broadway composers drifted into the movies.
