Late Night Shavuot Torah Class Following Shavuot Dinner At The UCTC

Press release:

The Union County Torah Center in Westfield will be presenting a special Shavuot Torah Class on Tuesday night June 3, at 11:30 pm. The lecture will follow a Festive Shavuot Dinner at the center that will start at 9:00 PM. Both programs are open to the public & will take place at the center 509 Central Ave. in Westfield. There is a $20. charge for the dinner.

Shavuot is a two-day festival that commemorates the giving of the Ten Commandments and the Torah on Mt. Sinai 3,324 years ago. The lecture will focus on the mystical insights of Mount Sinai and its implications to modern society and will be based on the teachings of the Kabbalah.

Rabbi Levi Block of the Torah Center who will be presenting the lecture explained the reason for such a late start to the lecture.  “The Torah was given at daybreak.  Our tradition relates that the Jewish people did not rise early to be prepared for that revelation, and that it was necessary for G-d Himself to awaken them.  To compensate for their behavior it is customary to stay up the entire first night of Shavuot studying Torah.”

The Holiday starts Tuesday evening, June 3, and will continue through Thursday the 5th.

The program is open to the public and reservations are not necessary for the lecture.  For more information & to RSVP for the dinner please call the center at 908-789-5252 or email info@torahcenter or register online atwww.torahcenter.org
