Groundbreaking at Clark's Age-Restricted Housing Project

Local officials gathered recently to celebrate the start of construction at Clark's age-restricted housing project on Terminal Avenue. The plans include four, four-story residential buildings with a total of 329 one- or two-bedroom units, 20 percent of which will be designated lower income housing per Coalition on Affordable Housing rules. The complex will be limited to residents 55 and over, 66 and older for the COAH units.

Clark Resident Michael Cupo Writes Memoir and Self-Help Book

Michael Cupo thought he had everything he’d always wanted: a beautiful wife, two wonderful children, a nice house, and a great job. By all outward appearances, he’d made it. He ought to have been one very happy person. But Michael felt he was not good enough ever since he was a child, and as an adult he found himself addicted to drugs, alcohol, and gambling—and his behavior was killing him and harming those he loved. Just published by Balboa Press, Cupo’s It’s Monday Only in Your Mind: You Are Not Your Thoughts uses his own, emotional personal experience and reinterprets the 12 Steps used by many programs to help us all live better.

At Tuesday's meeting, Garwood council approved 2012 salaries for certain borough employees and 2013 salaries for the police department. Council unanimously approved the resolution regarding police salaries, which reflect a 1.75 percent raise from 2012. The borough employee salaries put forth include individual raises over 2011; all raises were under two percent. Councilman Jim Mathieu voted against the raises, asking the council to consider taxpayers in these tough economic times. Councilman Keith Sluka said he felt it was unfair that 2012 employee salaries were not approved until the last meeting of the year.
