THE WESTFIELD AREA Y OFFERS BEGINNER BRIDGE CLASSES! HAVE FUN WHILE MAKING NEW FRIENDS

The Westfield Area Y is pleased to announce new eight-week Beginner Bridge classes this spring.  The classes begin April 28th and meet on Monday afternoons from Noon-2:00 pm at the Main Y, 220 Clark Street and/or on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm at the Westfield Area Y’s Bauer Branch, 422 East Broad Street in Westfield.  Classes are formatted for those with little or no experience.

This Beginning Class uses Audrey Grant’s revolutionary "Cards-On-The-Table" teaching method that has you playing bridge from the very first lesson, making learning bridge fun, easier, faster and more effective.  Participants will learn by playing, analyzing, and discussing many interesting deals instead of listening to lectures.  It starts at the beginning, introducing the mechanics of the game through its history.  The series will cover the fundamentals of the three aspects of the game such as bidding, play and defense.  Audrey Grant’s “Better Bridge 1: An Introduction” textbook is offered separately for a fee and presents the most current concepts and accurate information available.  It was developed with the assistance of the game's top champions. The material is presented in a clear, well-organized format, moving smoothly from one topic to the next.

The class is instructed by ACBL accredited bridge instructor, Robin Gillett. Robin is an ACBL Accredited Bridge Instructor, Tournament Director and Silver Life Master.  He states, “Bridge is the world’s greatest game of the mindIt’s stimulating and challenging and it also provides the ideal setting for socializing with interesting people and making new friends.”
