FANWOOD-SCOTCH PLAINS YMCA KEEPS ALL AGES ACTIVE THIS FALL THROUGH YOUTH BASKETBALL AND A MEN’S BASKETBALL LEAGUE

The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA (FSPY) is pleased to announce a variety of basketball programs for youth and a men’s basketball league for men and children of all ages to stay active this season.   

Kindergarten Basketball begins the week of December 7th at the Grand Street Facility and will provide Kindergarten children the game skills with drills and practice then scrimmaging other kindergarten teams.  Practices will be held on Saturday mornings.   

Youth Basketball League for children in Grades 1-2 is a league that everybody plays, everybody wins and is a co-ed instructional league.  Participants will be notified of their team’s practice location by their coaches. Practices will be held on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday nights beginning the week of December 2nd.  

Travel Basketball for children in Grades 3-4 will give them an opportunity to travel within the local vicinity with practices scheduled for mutually convenient times.  Games will be played on Sunday afternoons from December through March, culminating with a tournament.  Home games are played at FSPY and away games at either the JCC or Westfield Area Y.  Players must attend one or two clinics to work on skills and draft evenly matched teams.  Clinics will be held on Saturday, October 19th and November 2nd from 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm at the Martine Avenue Facility.

U12 & U14 YMCA TRAVEL BASKETBALL SELECT & IN-HOUSE TEAMS are also available.  Participants must attend tryouts and drafts to determine which team they will play on.  Some may be chosen to be a part of the Select Team, while others will join and In-House Team.  Mutually convenient practice times will be scheduled and teams will travel to YMCAs in the vicinity for 10-12 games during the December – March Season.  Tryouts and Drafts will be held at the Martine Avenue Facility on Saturday, October 19th or November 2nd. U14 will be held from 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm and U12 will be held from 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm. 

Men’s Basketball League is a competitive league which has two separate leagues; one for ages 18-29 and another league for ages 30 and over with most games played on Sunday mornings and early Sunday afternoons with the possibility of some games being played on Monday evenings.  Participants will play a full court with two certified officials. Scores, standings and statistics will be kept for this league and tracked through our league website for the season.  Registration is going on now for this league and forms are available at the Member Service Desk at the Martine Avenue location.  Scrimmages begin the end of November.  The regular season will begin on December 1st and will run until the end of March.   

Fall registration is going on now at the Member Service Desk for all programs and services offered at the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA.
