Curbing Hunger Extends June Food Drive Campaign

The Need for Food This Summer Hits Record Highs

Curbing Hunger kicked off their June Food Drive Campaign with high hopes of raising 50,000 pounds of food for the large amount of people who experience hunger during the summer months in Somerset County. In order to spread the word, increase participation, and make it easier for people to donate to the cause, Curbing Hunger started an online food drive at YouGiveGoods as part of their campaign to go hand in hand with their traditional physical collecting of food.

The goal of the campaign was to raise 50,000 pounds of food. By the end of June, 45,000 pounds had been raised.  In order to hit the goal, the campaign has been extended another two weeks.  Curbing Hunger President, Chuck Knill said, “We’re hoping that people who didn’t have a chance to participate so far will help us reach our goal so that we can better ensure that residents of Somerset County who need help will be able to get what they need this summer.”

In support of Curbing Hunger and of those who struggle with hunger daily in Somerset County, four other organizations followed in Curbing Hunger’s footsteps and started their own Online Food Drives on www.YouGiveGoods.com. St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, St. John on the Mountain, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Gladstone and the law firm, Norris, McLaughlin and Marcus, P.A., along with Curbing Hunger, have collectively raised over 6,000 lbs of food for The Food Bank Network of Somerset County through their online food drives.

Mr. Knill remarked, “YouGiveGoods provides us with a unique platform to raise food online. It’s quick and easy, and people know exactly what they are donating to The Food Bank Network of Somerset County. We’re thrilled that, overall, we have raised over 45,000 pounds. But we still need to raise more; the need for food this year is greater than in previous years, which is why we have decided to extend the campaign.”
