Clark Girl Scouts Help Girls' Prom Dreams Come True

Lauren Mulvihill and Erica Szymczak of Clark Cadette Girl Scout Troop 40361 recently completed a special service project that will help make going to Prom a reality for deserving young ladies in Union County who otherwise could not afford a dress for their magical evening. Lauren and Erica solicited donations of gently worn prom dresses, bridesmaid dresses, eighth grade dance dresses and other formal wear through fliers, emails, manning a table at evening donation events and picking up dresses from donors across Clark, Garwood and Cranford.

The girls were delighted to receive donations of over two dozen beautiful dresses and gowns that will be made available at the Junior League of Elizabeth-Plainfield’s “Glass Slipper Boutique” next month. At this event, young ladies from Union County who would otherwise be unable to afford expensive attire will be able to choose a dream-come-true dress and feel like Cinderella at their Prom.

“This service project was so much fun for me because I loved seeing all the beautiful dresses and thinking about the girls who will feel like a princess on Prom night because of what we did,” said Lauren. “Doing service for an organization that helps people in need was fun and very rewarding.” The girls were also happy to find that those who donated formal wear appreciated the opportunity to pass along dresses that they loved but will likely never wear again to a worthy cause. Freeing up precious space in their closets is also a benefit they were happy about.
