More than 20,000 kids and adults on five different continents helped spread the message that Swimming Lessons Save Lives in 2011.  News coverage about the program generated more than 20 million impressions in the US alone!  Tragically, drowning remains the second leading cause of injury-related death of children ages 1-14.  This year, Olympic Gold Medalists Rowdy Gaines and Janet Evans, along with kids and families at aquatic facilities all around the globe will join for The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson™ to break the world record to spread the word that Swimming Lessons Save Lives.™

Be a part of this amazing, life-saving, Guinness World Record ™ setting event and participate and help prevent drowning.  It’s FREE to members and non-members and open to all swim levels.  Registration is required by Sunday, June 10, 2012.  Interested swimmers can register at the Main Y Facility Welcome Center.  In addition, all participants will be entered into a drawing to win FREE swim lessons.

Founded in 1947, the Westfield Area Y's Men's Club is a group of men from Westfield, Cranford, Mountainside, Garwood, Clark, Fanwood, Scotch Plains, Union and Summit who participate in various community service projects. Describing themselves as fun-loving, handy, hard-working and containing the spirit of volunteerism, the group meets monthly to plan and participate in various projects, with social meetings held monthly as well.

The Club hosts an annual Christmas Tree Sale, which averages more than 1,600 trees sold per year. The group has worked on such projects as reseeding the Elm Street field across from the Board of Education Headquarters and the construction of the September 11th Memorial on North Avenue. The group donates both labor and administrative support to various projects. The club has an annual pig roast, and provides grants to community organizations. Business meetings are held at the YMCA on Clark Street, and dinner meetings are held at local restaurants. Business meetings are on the second Wednesday of the month, with dinner meetings on the fourth Wednesday. Following meetings, the group usually repairs to the Jolly Trolley for a post-mortem.
