DESCRIPTION:Temple Sha&rsquo\;arey Shalom of Springfield is proud to host
a special Klezmer Shabbat with the popular Hester Street Troupe on Frid
 ay\, June 15 at 8 pm. &nbsp\;This fun\, engaging musical Shabbat evening
honors Rabbi Joshua Goldstein\, who retires from Temple Sha'arey Shalom
on June 30\, 2012\, after 30 years as its religious and spiritual leade
 r. &nbsp\;\nThe Hester Street Troupe\, a dynamic trio who specializes
in Klezmer and Jewish music\, has been electrifying audiences for 23 yea
rs. Their extraordinary repertoire consists of Klezmer\, a style where t
he clarinet imitates human emotions like laughing and crying\, songs fro
m the Yiddish Vaudeville and Second Avenue Theatres\, as well as classic
older and more contemporary Jewish melodies.&nbsp\; The group has three
recordings\; their most recent\, On Second Avenue\, is a celebration of
songs from the Yiddish Vaudeville and the Lower East Side as well as tr
aditional Klezmer medleys. Their first recording\, Generation to Generat
ion\, connects you with the traditions of the Jewish experience and asks
the question "who will be the Zayde's of our children?"&nbsp\; The seco
nd\, Sounds of the Shtetl\, is a peek at a slice of life in the old Jewi
sh community called the Shtetl.&nbsp\;\nThe Troupe has performed extensi
vely throughout the Northeast as well as in Florida\, playing to standin
g-room-only audiences. This much sought-after group combines a special b
rand of shtick with popular Jewish songs for an explosive evening of ent
ertainment.\nThe community is invited to come dance and sing with the He
 ster Street Troupe during this special Shabbat service.&nbsp\;   &nbsp\;
