Richard and Pat Morgan live, write, and paint on Long Beach Island, a landscape that inspires them and informs their creative efforts. On Thursday, May 17, at 7 pm they will bring their art and poetry to Scotch Plains Public Library for a reading accompanied by a watercolor slideshow from their books. Richard will speak about “personal poetry,” his belief that there is poetry in everyone. Pat’s watercolors can be viewed at a book signing and reception following the presentation.
Their two books, I Am Sea Glass and Sea Glass People are collections of Richard’s words and Pat’s watercolors. Richard Morgan states, “I live and write on a barrier island where the wind and the waves fight for my attention… [each books is] a collection of words and watercolors that reflect each other like light bouncing back and forth between two polished mirrors. Both arts must seem spontaneous and flow down the page as though they always resided there in perfect order and harmony.”
Richard has been writing poetry for 50 years. He is a member of the LBI Writers’ Group and his poetry has appeared in Poetry Ink 2011, 15th Anniversary issue and the latest editions of Echoes of LBI. Richard has read his poetry at The Ocean County Library, Surf City Branch, Robin’s Bookstore, Philadelphia, Tuckerton Seaport’s “PoeTrio” and the LBI Writers’ Open Mic.
Pat is a signature member of the North East Watercolor Society, an elected member of Manhattan’s Salmagundi Club and has been a represented artist at the Wallkill River School in New York State. Pat has studied with well-known artists Janet Walsh, Charles Reid and Mel Stabin. She has received local and regional awards and has had paintings accepted into major exhibits.
