Viewfinder is our weekly photo slideshow of scenes from Clark or Garwood.Despite the iffy weather, nearly 200 children came to the Little League Fields in Garwood for the borough's annual Easter Egg Hunt. In addition to the egg hunting, the Easter Bunny posed for pictures, there was a Lindt bunny car and free Lindt chocolate, easter basket giveaways and a kids' raffle with some serious prizes, including bike helmets, rollerblades, crafts and more. The event was made possible by the generous donations of Walgreen's and borough council.
On Saturday, April 16, the sixth annual Easter Egg Hunt took place inside the Clark Recreation Center. More than 500 children attended. Volunteers began setting up on Friday night to make the day picture perfect. There was easter basket decorating, pictures with the Easter Bunny, a guess-how-many-jellybeans jar, games like ring toss and basketball, and a raffle which benefited Jason Condit, the son of Clark Dairy Queen owners Bill and Lois Condit, who is fighting cancer. There were six golden tickets somewhere within the 5,000 eggs that hit the gym floor; the ticket-holders received an …
Six – count 'em – six Dorothys were off to see the Wizard at Hehnly's performance of The Wizard of Oz. On Wednesday, March 30, fourth and fifth grade students at Valley Road School took the stage to present a version of the story The Little Mermaid to fellow students during the school day and in an evening performance for parents and friends. Here, a few photo highlights from the show.
On a picture perfect opening day, the Clark Little League teams paraded down the road from Arthur L. Johnson High School to Bose Field at Clark's Little League complex. Riding in the back of balloon-laden pickup trucks (and even the occasional dump truck), the teams made their way down Westfield Ave, tossing candy to the crowd and munching on a little themselves. The Clark Girls Softball teams, also celebrating their opening day, were lined up along the route cheering on the parade and collecting handfuls of candy. Once the parade arrived at Bose Field, the teams lined up around the edge of …
The sun was shining as the Garwood Little League teams paraded from Lincoln School to take to the James V. Guerriero Memorial Field for the first time this season. Before the games got started, Scott Kessler, president of the league, presented awards to former mayor Dennis McCarthy and his wife Debbie and to Keith Gallagher for their commitment to Garwood Little League over the years. The ceremonial first pitch was thrown by Mayor Patricia Quattrochhi and her husband John, Keith Gallagher, Police Chief William Legg and Ricky King. In addition to the games, the kitchen was open for …
There was plenty of moving and shaking inside the Clark Recreation Center on Thursday night, as hundreds turned out to "Zumba for a Cause." The acting was exquisite, the music exceptional, the stage management seamless, the costumes alluring and beautiful, and the dancers brought an entertaining lift to an otherwise heavy, thought-provoking message. The convincing and captivating performance had audience members transfixed, traveling back to 1930s Berlin, escaping for a moment from the present and experiencing the turning of the tides from prosperity, creativity and decadence to oppressive Nazi rule. Congratulations to all students and faculty advisors for an outstanding production.
After the annual Union County St. Patrick's Day Parade, many headed over to the Garwood Knights of Columbus for their annual post-parade dinner dance. Live entertainment was provided by the Brother John Brown Band and Irish step dancers, as guests dined on corned beef and cabbage, Irish soda bread and other favorites, before dancing the night away. Erin go bragh!
