The Garwood Blotter: 18-Year-Old Arrested for Drunk Driving After Racing on South Avenue
The following arrest information was provided by the Garwood Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.
June 19, 2:20 a.m. – A South Plainfield youth was stopped early Sunday morning when he was observed to be driving in a careless manner. Officer Todd Herz observed two vehicles speeding past him, apparently racing down South Avenue. A motor vehicle stop was made on the 400 block of South Avenue and the investigation found Jesus Huayta, 18, of 1207 Foster Avenue in South Plainfield to be under the influence of alcohol. Huayta was arrested and agreed to provide samples of his breath for testing which resulted in a .13 percent BAC (blood alcohol content) reading. In addition, Huayta was under the legal age to consume alcohol. Huayta was issued several summons and released to a family member pending court in Garwood.

Now there's a dumb kid! Racing down South Avenue with another car while drunk to boot. South avenue is a busy road. He may as well have just walked into the Garwood Police Station and said "arrest me I'm driving drunk". And the Garwood police station is ON South Ave. Thank God he did not maim or kill anyone himself included.
