Incumbents Claim District 22 Senate, Assembly Seats

Scutari, Stender and Green elected to new stints in Senate and Assembly races.

The Democrat incumbents for New Jersey's 22nd District Senate and Assembly races all earned resounding victories Tuesday.

State Senator Nicholas Scutari, the three-time Democratic Senator, beat challenger Michael W. Class, 12,240 votes (65 percent) to 6,336 votes (34 percent).

In the state Legislature, all 120 seats were up for grabs — 80 in the state Assembly and 40 in the Senate. In the Assembly, incumbents Jerry Green and Linda Stender collected nearly twice as many votes as their rivals. Green earned 11,292 votes and Stender collected 11,971. Challengers Jeffrey D. First and Joan D. Van Pelt collected 6,444 and 6,986, respectively.

Stender has been a member of the Assembly since 2002; Green has been in the Assembly since 1992. The 22nd District includes the Union County towns of Clark, Fanwood, Scotch Plains, Rahway, Linden and Plainfield.
