Help Save Homeless Dogs from Euthanization
Advocacy groups are reporting that due to overcrowding at a local animal shelter, three dogs will be euthanized on Thursday if homes are not available.
Best Friend Dog & Animal Adoption, Inc., a Scotch Plains-based animal advocacy group, has reported that, due to shelter overcrowding, three dogs will be euthanized this Thursday, May 31, if they are not adopted.
The following message was posted on the group's facebook page:
THIS IS URGENT!
The animal shelter is full. This past week they had 19 dogs. They only have 12 runs!
This area has been devastated by the housing market. Foreclosures are forcing families to surrender or abandon their pets.
There are many wonderful dogs of all sizes that will be put to sleep if not rescued. They euthanize on Thursday mornings.
They DO NOT allow pictures to be taken of the dogs.
The dogs to be euthanized this coming Thursday are:
- Shepherd/Rottie mix - with possible leg injury. PLEASE HELP HIM!
- An adorable mix breed female, medium size, brown/black/white
- Lab mix, black male - very sweet, GREAT DOG
- Brindle with white Pitty
- Blue Nose male Pitty, 1-2 yrs old
All the dogs listed ARE FRIENDLY. PLEASE SHARE!!! They deserve to live.
PLEASE contact/forward to legit rescue groups and responsible dog lovers who might be able to help!
Call Charlotte at 908-486-0230 or 908-400-7446 if you're interested in meeting any of these dogs. Thank you!!!
"They have a small facility for such a big city," a representative from Best Friends said. "They get dogs dumped there all-the-time. We know that some come from NY since they're just next to the Goethals Bridge. I'm praying they don't get more in this weekend."

Four of the five dogs were pulled from the shelter by Best Friend. No other group was able to take any. They are doing very well and will be up for adoption after they are neutered.
