Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa Opens in Clark

The spa opened on Monday in the Clark Circle shopping complex.

Kim Cagle couldn't be happier she traded in her law career for the spa.

"I love the idea of working in a positive, happy environment, and I love the health and wellness aspect of massage and facial," Cagle says of her new business, Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa, which opened on Nov. 28 in the Clark Circle shopping complex.

The franchise offers massages, facials, waxing and a membership program. After a $40 enrollment fee, members pay $49.95 per month, which entitles them to either a massage or facial. Cagle says there's no contract or commitment, and members also receive a newsletter and discounts on retail products and gift cards.

Hand & Stone's massage options include 50- and 80-minute varieties like classic Swedish, deep tissue, prenatal and couples massages. Facials run from the classic for women, men or teens to specialty options like anti-aging. Hand & Stone also offers microderm abrasion and glycolic and salicylic peels, and carries several skincare lines including Dermologica and Clarity.

Cagle says she and her husband always wanted to open their own business. "We did some research and when we found Hand & Stone we fell in love with concept right away," she says. "Hand & Stone was developed by a physical therapist who was passionate about the health and wellness aspects of massage. We loved the idea of providing such a high-quality service at a price people can afford on a regular basis."

Cagle, a Westfield resident who formerly commuted to New York City, also loves working close to home. Her employees are local, too. "It's a fantastic thing because when a customer calls and we're busy we can make room and call someone in," she says.

When asked her favorite treatment, Cagle has no trouble choosing. "My very favorite is our signature hot stone massage, and I pair that with our special foot treatment," she says.

Cagle believes that what will set Hand & Stone apart from other spas is their customer service. "From the moment we greet customers, through entire service and as they leave, we will make sure they feel special," she says.

Right now, Cagle is selling lots of gift cards for the holidays. "They can be used throughout year and we can direct customers to find the best present for each person on their list."

But don't forget to reward yourself, advises Cagle. "The holidays are stressful and we recommend taking some 'me time' to cope," she says. "Come see us and get a relaxing massage or a rejuvenating facial."

Hand & Stone also offers introductory prices for new customers. A 50-minute massage is $49.95, a hot stone is $69.95, and microderm abrasion is $100.

"Clark and the surrounding communities are a thriving market, consisting of a fantastic collection of shopping and dining choices, with demographics that support our business model," says Bob McQuillan, Hand & Stone's Vice President of Franchise Development. "This specific center, anchored by a Target and Marshalls provides a fantastic co-tenancy. Currently, we have 19 locations opened in the state of NJ with plans to open and additional 15-20 locations within the next 18 – 24 months."

"For those of you who have never had a massage, we're going to introduce you and make you feel comfortable and fantastic," says Cagle. "And for those of you who are regular massage-goers and generally go somewhere else, come down and try us out. We know you're going to love us."
