Garwood Police are investigating a purse theft that occurred at about 10 p.m. last night at ShopRite on North Avenue.

Chief Bruce Underhill says the incident was not a strong-arm robbery or purse snatching, but rather that the suspect lifted the purse from the victim's shopping cart while she had her back turned.

Last night, police were searching along North Avenue for a white male in a gray sweatshirt but did not apprehend the suspect.
