Garwood Moves Toward Approving Athletic Field Complex

Council approved the introduction of the bond ordinance for the project by a 5 to 1 vote.

Garwood Council took the first step towards final approval of the proposed Athletic Field Complex at Tuesday night's borough council meeting when they voted 5 to 1 to introduce the bond ordinance that will allow for financing of the project.

The packed meeting brought out more than 50 residents with strong and differing opinions on the project who spoke out during the public comments section of the meeting. After hearing from all who chose to speak, councilmembers and the mayor voiced their thoughts on the project with all but Jim Mathieu expressing support for the complex to move forward as proposed.

The ordinance council voted to introduce tonight will have its public hearing at the next council meeting on August 14. If approved, council can then award the project at its subsequent meeting in September and groundbreaking can occur thereafter.
