Garwood Council Discusses Producing a Newsletter

At Tuesday's Garwood Council meeting residents and council members discussed whether the borough should – and could afford to – produce a quarterly newsletter.
The discussion began after a resident spoke up during the public session to request the newsletter, saying he and several of his neighbors had not been well-informed about the borough's recently approved Athletic Field Complex.
Councilwoman Sara Todisco said the finance committee was in agreement that a newsletter would be a good idea, but that there was not a line item in the budget dedicated to a newsletter.
Borough Administrator Christina Ariemma estimated that such a publication would cost about $800 to create and $200 to mail per issue. When Garwood distributed newsletters previously, Ariemma said department heads would send her write-ups about their department's activities that she would then edit to create the publication.
Councilman Jim Mathieu offered to produce the newsletter and suggested perhaps recruiting volunteers to walk the borough distributing it. Todisco also suggested that many residents might opt to receive the newsletter via email.
Is a newsletter worth the price the borough would have to pay to create and distribute it? What do you think? Tell us in the comments.
