UPDATE, Wednesday, 11 a.m.: Runaway Clark Teen Kara Alongi Found Off Turnpike Near Exit 1, Brought Home This Morning
CLARK, NJ – Kara Alongi, a 16-year-old Arthur L. Johnson junior, tweeted "There is somone in my hour ecall 911" before vanishing Sunday evening and becoming a social media sensation.
The story of Alongi's disappearance went viral on Twitter, with #helpfindkara trending at number three worldwide and 96,000 followers on her Twitter profile (@KaraAlongi). Clark Police have now discovered Alongi left voluntarily, calling a cab to drop her at the Rahway train station. Alongi is still missing.
Police responded to her home on Hall Drive last night after Alongi's parents returned home and found her missing. Police investigated and saw no signs of a break-in or foul play. According to police, a canine unit tracked Alongi's scent from the back door of her house, through a neighbor's yard, to the sidewalk and around the corner back onto her block, where the scent goes cold.
A group of about 20 of Alongi's family, friends and neighbors stood waiting outside the home late into the evening as police were investigating. Alongi's grandmother, Toni Alongi, described her as respectful and sensitive, and said it is not like her to run away.
The Twitterverse has responded with vitriol now that Alongi's tweet is suspected to be a hoax, with many tweeting that she should be punished for causing such a stir.
Clark Police, of course, are much more concerned with getting Alongi home.
"Kara might feel that she will be in trouble if she comes home after this scare and causing a panic," said Clark Police Chief Alan Scherb in a news release. "At this point, all everyone cares about is seeing her safe and at her house where she belongs."
Anyone with any information about Alongi's whereabouts should call Clark Police at 732-388-3434.
We will continue to check in with Clark Police and will update this story as more information becomes available.

How sad that anyone would feel they had to go to this extreme to get attention for whatever reason!!!!!!!!!!! We all need to put down our gizmos and remember why we have been given two ears and one mouth and souls!

It strikes me as a strange, and a very sad, if not disturbing sign of the times, that anyone's first thought in an emergency situation would be to send out a 911 message for help via social media, as opposed to immediately dialing 911. It seems we need to focus on re-schooling people on how to handle situations appropriately. I will keep this child in my prayers.

Get the best computer nerd in your area and have him trace her PC history, even if it's eraced a good tech can do it. I bet it will lead to whomever she ran off too.

I think she has been abducted. Her actual message should have read. someone is in my house; please call 911. She was typing because she was trying to be quiet. She saw a chance to run out the back door but the suspect saw her and gave chase after her and caught up with her and put her in a car. Police need to check out the cab driver who gave this info about driving her to train station. If she caught a train there should be paperwork showing her info at the train station. They also have cameras at the train station. Something here is not adding up. Are the cab driver identifying the correct girl?

I hope they find her safe and well before they pass judgement against her. If this was a hoax she needs to come home to give her parents and family peace of mind and face whatever consequences dealt to her. As a parent I can feel for her parents the anguish not knowing where or what has happened to her. There must have been some part of her desperate for attention to pull such a stunt. Yet if she was truly taken it would be such a tragedy for everyone to think the worst of her and give up on her when she really needs everyones help to find her. Whatever the outcome I wish the family all the luck in the world to find her safe and unharmed.

Wouldn't it be quicker to diall 911 than send a text message, knowing the recipient will then have to call 911?
Something stinks, alright..........

@Msstarz there's a picture of her standing at the train station. She's just an attention seeking little brat and should be penalized for pulling such crap... If you're going to run away, just leave. Don't fake a kidnapping. There are people out there whose kids are actually missing.
