Clark Teen Burned in Backyard Bonfire Doing Well

Eryka Underwood is awake, walking—and missing her cell phone.

Family friends of Eryka Underwood, the 15-year-old Johnson student and star athlete burned in Tuesday's bonfire accident, have launched a website to disseminate updates about the teen's progress. GetWellEryka.com posted yesterday that Eryka is awake, walking, has had her breathing tube removed, and will have her first surgeries Monday and Thursday on her hands. Doctors attribute her quick progress to her young age and physical fitness. The update also includes this bit, which comes as no surprise to friends of Underwood: "She is, however, slightly upset over not having a cell phone!!!"

A dinner fundraiser for Underwood will be held Nov. 28 at the Firehouse Eatery & Pub in Rahway. GetWellEryka.com also confirms that 16-year-old Kevin Lopez was the other teen burned during the accident.
