"From my young days as a Boy Scout through later involvement with various school, social, professional and municipal clubs, groups and organizations, I have always been drawn to community service. I do not feel fulfilled without serving in some community capacity. I have enjoyed serving my fellow Garwood residents through my service with St. Anne's Church, the Shade Tree Commission, the Planning Board and the Board of Education. My efforts have provided me with knowledge and experience that should result in good, compassionate, comprehensive decisions when I am faced with boro issues. I look forward to serving Borough residents once again through election to the Garwood Borough Council."
Nierstedt is married to his wife Maria and has two adult children, Eric and Jenna.
"Garwood has always been a conclave of utopia with a small town community character in the midst of a large depersonalized urban area," Nierstedt told Patch. "Our taxes are lower, our streets are cleaner, our residents are more down to earth, and our community spirit is second to none. Our Borough services have always been personal and top notch. I want to be able to maintain our 'small town with a big heart' character while intelligently providing for future changes at affordable costs. I believe that Democratic party core values are best suited to making our local government good local government, one that can provide necessary and desirable services sensibly, fairly and reasonably. Vote for Ann Palmer and Bill Nierstedt for Borough Council!"
